A power animal retrieval is the first step to restoring power
What is a power animal
A power animal is an ally and support for you as you navigate the challenges of life. If you also do work in the spirit world, a power animal is literally a guide, keeping you safe from attachments and unhealthy spiritual situations.
Finding out about your power animal is a poignant step in your healing journey, for your power animal can give you access to timeless wisdom and empower you to make better decisions.
What I love about facilitating power animal retrievals for clients is that a power animal has the ability to reveal much about the client’s soul purpose, and it can be absolutely illuminating for a client to experience, for the first time, how the spirit world views them.
It’s a profound acknowledgement that yes, you exist, that you’re on the right path, and that you are loved, that often leaves the client in tears as the relief of this knowledge sinks in. This become especially poignant when you consider the shame that we all carry. Consider those who have suffered abuse, and also consider those who have abused others. Both are on this earth to learn and to heal.
There is something incredibly validating in knowing that the spirits not only are aware of you, but they are actively supporting you.
For many, a power animal retrieval offers a glimpse of personal redemption and a reminder that no matter what they’ve done or what their circumstance is or was, they are sacred, they are loved, and they are supported.
How does your power animal help you
Shamanic medicine is quite simple at its root. A shamanic practitioner either removes power that doesn’t belong to you or restores your power that you’ve lost.
When we’re born, we are usually born with perfect energetic bodies. When we experience traumatic incidents like car accidents, being bullied, witnessing or having violence directed at us, we suffer soul loss.
This loss leaves empty spaces in our energy field that leave us vulnerable to negative energy (like others’ jealousy, illness, and spiritual attachment.) This negative energy can cause much upheaval in our lives and be the spiritual root cause for issues like depression, detatchment, and addiction.
When I do a power animal retrieval, I go into the spirit world on your behalf and I ask for help for you. That help comes in the form of a power animal.
I will literally blow some of that animal’s spiritual energy into you. The energy integrates with and strengthens your own. This integration, in turn, pushes out negative energy that doesn’t serve you.
One of the things I love best about power animal retrievals is the info we can glean.
Most power animals (although not all) have messages to pass along to the client. It can be anything from the person’s role on this earth, information about past lives, warnings if the person is veering form their purpose or affirmation if the person is on the right path.
The form a power animal takes is also a message to the client. There is something in the form – a moose, a snake or a martin, for example – that has something to teach the client or is a reflection of the client and deserves further exploration.
There are times when a power animal infuses us with the exact kind of energy we need. That energy may empower us to become more introspective or cautious (lynx!) or to get busy and start grasping the opportunities in front of us (squirrel!). These interpretations are my own, of course. What a power animal means is different for each client.
Is a power animal really an animal?
I include this question because it’s the #1 question I get from kids (so I suspect all my adult clients are thinking it!)
Typical of the spirit world, the answer is both yes and no.
I tend to look at power animals as pure spirits that use the form of animals as a teaching symbol and a way to ease the communication. It’s like that Jodie Foster move Contact, where the aliens take the guise of the main character’s father on a beach, to put her at ease.
On the other hand, I have seen lots of lots of situations where a power animal is the spirit of an animal the client helped or came into contact with in the past.
Either way, the type of animal that appears is always meaningful to the client, and an aside: EVERY ANIMAL IS POWERFUL! Don’t judge your power animal! Be grateful for whatever comes to you, because it’s coming to you for a reason.
True, a salmon may not majestically soar the heavens eagle-style, but in my culture, salmons are the keepers of all wisdom (go read the Coming of Fionn and you will understand!)
There are also some beliefs out there that certain animals can’t be power animals at all. For example, dogs and snakes. Well, again in my culture, hounds play a sacred role in many of our teachings and snakes are terribly powerful. We see symbols of both on ancient artwork and stone carvings. I promise you: Whatever animal form comes to you, be it dog, snake or a honey bee, there is meaning in that form for you.
How do you discover your power animal?
One of the reasons I love to do power animal retrievals is that it’s a gentler kind of healing than, say, a soul retrieval or extraction, but still incredibly powerful. When one is a recovering addict or struggling with other issues, a gentle approach is welcome. The chances of side effects or a healing crisis as energy grounds is considerably lessened.
When someone asks me to do work on a child, this is the only kind of work I will do. Knowing their power animal is incredibly empowering for a young person, and helps them to form a sense of identity. I’m of the opinion that developing a healthy sense of identity can inoculate the person against many of the issues we see in modern society.
A power animal retrieval session generally takes an hour although it can take less. Part of that time is spent counselling the client on how to honour their power animal. These teachings may come from the power animal itself or from my own teachings and experience.
Most of my clients contact me for soul retrieval work, (I think that more people are aware of soul retrieval work thanks to the efforts of Sandra Ingerman and the late Michael Harner) but soul retrieval work can be intense, and is not for everyone. For many of these clients, a power animal retrieval makes better sense as a way to strengthen the spirit to a point where soul retrieval makes sense.
Luckily, it’s not for me (or you) to decide. This is always a question that I ask the sprits on your behalf. My job is merely to relay the information, and it’s up to you to decide if you accept that spiritual guidance or not.
